Mongg (mɒ̃ŋɣ) is the name of a desert plant found on Garr.

Description

Mongg is a succulent, growing in the deserts and arid plains all over planet Garr. Its leaves, pale blue-green and bearing tooth-like spines along their edges, store moisture and sap. The leaves of a mature plant can grow up to three feet long, and an individual leaf can weigh up to eight pounds (3.63 kg). The leaves grow in a spiral pattern out from the central stem, at the top of which grows a single flower, whose petals can vary in color from region to region (mostly bright red or blue/purple).

Uses

The sap of mongg leaves has many uses among the natives of Garr. It has a pungent and pleasant scent, something like coffee mixed with spices.

Food: The leaves can be fried and eaten (they cannot be eaten raw due to toxins which break down at high heat), and the flower petals likewise are edible as a garnish on other dishes.

Medicine: Mongg leaves can be pounded to extract the viscous sap, which resembles green honey. This sap has many medicinal properties: it can act as an antiseptic, a topical anesthetic, and even an aid to healing wounds in the flesh.

Cleaning: Mongg sap can also be frothed into a foam and used as a shampoo or body soap. However, this use is typically reserved only for those preparing their body before arena fights. Powdered mongg sap is also added to laundry to freshen the scent of clothing.
