Character History

Note: all of this is considered OOC, unless you were a part of it.

Re Talgon's origins are obscure, which is how he likes it. Coming from a small town in the middle of no place you'd care to know, from an early age he found deception far easier and more convenient than the truth. Call him a sociopathic liar, but he'd prefer to keep the truth about himself to himself. Often hiding in the shadows to find out secrets, he decided to take on the life of a spy. Yet spies are often in the way of danger, so he picked up a blade and began to practice.

In accordance with his deceptive ways, Re found curved blades more to his liking than straight ones. It was when a trader from a far-off place called Purrsia (or something like that) came to his town that he first laid eyes on the kriss sword. Waiting until night, he creeped aboard the trader's ship and stole the sword, which he decided to call Deceit. As he was about to leave with it, the trader appeared and confronted him. Something woke within Re Talgon, and he slew the trader without a second's thought. Now he knew he could kill as well as deceive.

Running from town to town, Re found work as a common cutthroat assassin, always making enough to live on or stealing the remainder. At one point, he almost became involved with a mercenary guild called Barra Velven. He had plotted with a member of the guild to murder their leader, Mittasurie, and take power. But before their plans could come to fruition, the leader disappeared, and Re did as well, seeking other opportunities.

After many journeys, he chanced to meet the warrior with whom he had plotted, in a place called Tanglewood. Apparently, his 'friend' had become attached to another guild, House Etayth, though his service was more slavery than anything else. Re had thought of doing some work for the guild, but in the end he decided that there were bigger and better things for him.

He finally found his way to the land of Cymru, to Castle Rhuddlan, arriving just as the land was under the influence of a plague. He didn't stay, then, but in time he returned, thinking that with many dead from plague, he might have opportunity to earn some measure of power. After he refused to give his name, one there gave him the nickname "Ashen," because of his dark grey fur. He smiled, finding the name much to his liking, being nothing like his true one. In the end, he left Castle Rhuddlan, not finding much else to his liking there, and continued wandering from place to place, surviving.

A while later, he arrived in Eileadora, where he decided to settle down, for a little while at least. It was time for him to spread his ambitions and gain what he truly wanted in life — power. Unfortunately, life often fails to give what one seeks. After a rather prickly incident with a local trader, Re had to make a narrow escape from Eileadora. He decided that it was best to fade into the shadows, until he was once again mostly forgotten.

After many years of wandering, Re found his way to a town known as Peddler's Hollow. Having found the local atmosphere much to his liking, he decided that it was time for the traveller to stay a while. Who knows for how long that will be, of course…

Personality Notes

Re's whole life and character is based on lies. He presents himself in whatever way he finds useful. At no point does he require himself to tell the truth, or at least at no point would he prefer to tell the truth if it is not necessary. Few, if any, know his real name, and even fewer know anything about him other than that he speaks mostly in riddles and figures of speech. To control his deceptions, he has mastered controlling his emotional displays, so that only those he wishes to convey are shown. All of his speech is calculated, almost premeditated, relying heavily on twists and plays on words to say more than he says at face value. It is his personal motto that, "It is only when I tell the truth that one need fear me."
