Illanian
Illanians (Sarali Illanyar) are a bird-like species, originally from planet Illanu. They existed as the Illanian Star Empire until their war with the Endri-nâi Confederation, some one hundred fifty years ago. After the war, the defeated Illanians ousted their leadership and reformed their interplanetary government as the Illanian Star Republic.

Etymology
The name Illanian, or Illanyar in the Sarali language, refers to their homeworld, which is called Illanu in Sarali. In Lokenna, the planet is referred to as Ellan, and the people as Nan-ellan. Other names for the planet and people are similar.
Demography
The major ethnic groups among Illanians are the Sarali (45%), Lokenna (23%), Rolar (14%), Nissim (12%), Glasso (3%), and Klau (2%). The Sarali and Lokenna languages are in most common use, though Sarali is far more widely adopted, being the former official language of mandate in the Empire.
Physiology


Height: The average Illanian stands between six and seven feet tall, with men generally being taller than women. Those from the Klau ethnicity are known for being taller, with some individuals approaching eight feet, while those from the Rolar people are generally shorter, with few ever exceeding 6.5 feet in height.
Skin and Feathers: Illanians are covered with feathers over all their body except for their forearms, hands, shins, ankles and feet, which are covered in scaly skin. They normally have large display feathers on the top of the head, with females having more than males. Females generally also have more and larger feathers around the neck and shoulders, whereas males have long tail feathers.
Mouth: Illanian mouths are hardened into semi-rigid beaks, with the upper portion segmented. Only the tips of the beak are completely rigid.
Lifespan: The average Illanian lives anywhere from seventy to eighty years.
