The Lächyr of Morhwyn are an enigmatic species who have only recently begun to deal with either the Republic or the Alliance. They were never conquered by the Illanians, and Rel-danii have not been allowed near their territory. Little is known of their culture or history. While outwardly they seem to share some features with the children of Sothendra, any relationship is denied by both sides.

The only other people with whom they are known to have extensive dealings is the Röa of planet Anarh, as their home planets are in the same star system. Over the past millennium, the Lächyr and Röa have alternated between being allies and enemies several times, and multiple wars have been fought between them. At present, the two peoples are at peace.

Adult lächyr typically stand between 5′5″–5′11″ tall, with males usually taller than females. Deviation from the average usually tends toward the shorter side; very rarely are they over six feet in height. They are, however, lighter for their height than the average human; most of their large bones are hollow, and they typically have very little body fat. Their feet are digitigrade, each with three claw-bearing toes, although several have been observed wearing boots which give the appearance of plantigrade feet. Their tails are long and muscular, though usually not fully prehensile, with a tuft of hair at the tip. Lächyr skin tones range from extremely pale pink to dark tan. Their eyes, which are typically larger than a human's, have cat-like vertical pupils. Common eye colors are light blue, yellow-orange, and orange-red. Their pointed ears, though certainly not as long as those of an endrith or trælau, are nonetheless known to possess keen hearing.

The most notable physical features of the lächyr are their wings and feathers. Though a lochar's wings are only featherless stubs at birth, by the time they reach adulthood, the feathered wings on a lochar's back will grow large and possess enough physical strength for standing takeoff and sustained flight. Lächyr also grow feathers from the face, with 2–5 feathers growing from the forehead on either side of the face. Male lächyr also grow feathers from the side of each jaw, underneath the ear. Usually (but not always), the number of feathers is the same on either side of the face. Feather colours vary dramatically from family to family; head feathers are usually a brighter colour than wings feathers, and neither are necessarily the same as their hair color. A female lochyn will typically have lighter/brighter wing feathers than a male lochar.

Lächyr hair is thickest on the head and tail-tip, but they also have patches of hair covering various parts of the body. Most commonly, they will have patches on their cheeks, the sides and backs of their necks and limbs (including the tail), and on top of the foot. Male lächyr also often have hair across their upper chests and shins. Although the hair on a lochar's head and tail tip is thicker and more like human hair, the body hair is finer and closer in structure to feather down. Common hair colors are various shades of brown, red, or blue. Facial hair is less common among male lächyr than among humans, but not unknown. Most commonly, a lochar will grow (if anything) a short goatee with no moustache.

While lächyr nurseries have never been visited by ousiders, it is known that they reproduce sexually, with females laying 1–3 eggs at a time.
